Seattle Spring SCBWI Conference

I am so happy to share that I will be able to attend the Seattle SCBWI conference this year: http://www.cvent.com/events/23rd-annual-writing-and-illustrating-for-children-conference/event-summary-0904b113bc5c48679288c065d709a123.aspx

There is such a great line up for this one, as usual.

I am having a great time adding a few new pieces to my portfolio, and will attempt to construct my own portfolio binder. I will let you know how that turns out.

Here is a new black and white illustration that ties in with my "Sea Captain" story, which is still just forming, but not going away. The nieces come to stay for a while.

What have you been up to? Any other conference goers out there?

  1. How exciting! I can't wait to hang with you at the conference. This drawing is wonderful - I love the way you placed the two girls on the corner pointing towards the sea captain and his garden! And I love, love, love the potty flower pot in the back corner - so funny :)

Is this intended to be a 2-page spread? Is that a sculpture of the wind over his gate?

    1. I can't wait to hang with you at the conference too Ariel! Thank you for your input! Good question about whether it is a double page spread- you have a good eye. I think it would be on one side, as there would be too many things in the gutter. I guess the dimensions of the book would have to be a certain way. I am feeling like this story might not be a PB. ???

    2. Perhaps a chapter book then? Very intriguing. If it were a PB, perhaps the book could be a horizontal format (11x8.5) and this image could be on either the left or the right of the gutter. Looking forward to seeing this develop!

    3. Thank you Ariel, you made me think a little further ahead. I need to have these things in mind!

    4. Haha- here I am again- thought about it more- no, I think this is a picture book. Not a full page spread though. One with text on one side, picture on opposite page. This project needs a lot more planning :)

  2. I'm going! And trying to get more pieces for my portfolio, too. We'll see if that happens. Since I'm doing the roundtable critiques, it would be nice to have some new pieces to show.
